The environment and bottled water

With the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] ready to publish their report tomorrow I found an interesting article on the CBC news
Now I'm not a "tree hugger" by any stretch but I think anyone who mountain bikes has an intrinsic love of the outdoors and nature so I thought I'd chime in with this little tidbit of wisdom from one of our own well respected scientist.

Canadians wanting to do something about the environment can start by drinking tap water, environmentalist David Suzuki says.

"Everywhere I go across Canada, I insist I be given tap water when I get up to speak," Suzuki told CBC News on Thursday.

"I think in Canada it's absolutely disgusting that people are so uncertain about their water that we buy it, paying more for bottled water than we do for gasoline."

I worked out buying bottle water every day over a year is crazy expensive...certainly pay for some riding trips or bike parts

i use a "Brita" water filter to make the tap water cleaner and a camelbak to hold it

Yeah, I use the Brita filters too cause I don't like the taste of the chlorine in the water. I never really considered the cost, for me its more about the plastic bottles that end up in landfills and the energy used to make the bottles.

I personally don't like the tatse of bottled water, and even if I did I certainly would not pay to buy a bottle over drinking perfectly good tap water. Can ou imagine how much energy and resources it would save if everyone stopped drinking bottled water!? think of all the fuel used to transport it, the materials used to make the bottling plants, not to mention the plastic used for the bottles and labels!

Canadaian water is good, as is Scottish (it's the best!!! haha) but to be honest water in most places is good, and certainly can become good if a filter is used... however bear in mind environmental costs of filter systems.. basically I'd say only use them if your water is crap!

i read somewhere its been through 22 peoples bodies and filtration plants before you drink it?

Hey guys. My 2 cents.

I live 2 blocks from a water reservoir. Nothing but good clean water here, unless it rains hard, which has been happening a lot lately.

I noticed bottled water is more expensive than gas. I'm trying to figure out why that is. I mean, gas HAS to be more expensive to produce than bottled water for sure.
